Volkert is pleased to announce that Nelson T. “Ty” Lee, Jr., PE, has joined the firm’s Mid-Atlantic Region as Director of Transportation in the Virginia Beach office. “Having Ty join the Volkert team and take the lead in the Hampton Roads area allows Volkert to expand upon the comprehensive services we are providing our clients in the region,” said Dennis Morrison, PE, Senior Vice President of Volkert’s Mid-Atlantic Region. Ty has worked in the transportation infrastructure industry for more than 30 years, providing engineering, project management, and leadership. His experience includes managing all facets of roadway and bridge projects while serving the City of Virginia Beach and VDOT’s Hampton Roads District. While at VDOT, he served as Project Manager for the Courtland Interchange on Route 58 in Southampton County; the Oak Grove Roundabout in Chesapeake; and the Meherrin River Bridge Replacement on I-95 in Emporia. Another project of note was the final design and construction of Independence Boulevard, Phase IVB & IVC, which Ty managed during his tenure at the City of Virginia Beach. A licensed Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Ty earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Old Dominion University. He also has a Conflict Management Certification from Old Dominion University, and an Associates Project Management Certification and Masters Project Management Certification from George Washington University.
