VTCA Membership,

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, VDOT is making the following revisions to the guidelines relating to Materials Certification Schools, Flagger Certification Training, and Work Zone Traffic Control Training:

Material Certification Schools (this guidance will remain in place until 6/30/2020, or until new guidance is issued)

  • Individuals that have never held a certification will be allowed to work under the direct supervision of another certified individual.  The uncertified individual is required to complete the pertinent self-study or online course (for a knowledge base) prior to starting work.
  • Those who held certifications as of December 31, 2019 (where their certifications have expired in 2020) will have their certifications extended until June 30, 2020, or until new guidance is issued.

Currently, all written examinations and proficiency examinations will be unavailable.  VDOT continues to work with both the Community College Workforce Alliance (CCWA) and Germanna Community College (GCC) to explore alternative training and testing methods.

Flagger Certification and Work Zone Traffic Control Training (this guidance will remain in place until new guidance is issued)

Flagger Certification Training and Work Zone Traffic Control Training Courses (Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced) have been cancelled in many areas of the state.  VDOT is granting a six (6) month extension to those with either a Flagger Certification Card or a Work Zone Traffic Control (Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced) Training Card that would normally be expiring in March, April or May, 2020.
