LaneAware Launches November 30, Training Now Available

Posted By: Tom Witt Member and Industry News,

VDOT announced it will launch the LCAMS replacement system, LaneAware, on November 30. As reported in the August Heard Along the Highway -  VDOT Sets December Target to Launch "LaneAware" Platform, VDOT is retiring both LCAMS and the VATraffic Planned Events legacy systems in favor of LaneAware, a new platform designed to deliver a streamlined point of entry for contractors, a more efficient user interface, and improved performance.

Mandatory training is required for access

VDOT has developed the training course on VDOT University. Completing it is mandatory to receive a LaneAware user account. Anyone who hasn't finished the online training will not be able to log in to LaneAware.

VDOT strongly suggests that users complete the training by close of business on November 20, 2026, to allow VDOT time to create accounts before the November 30 transition.

How to get the training

  1. Log in to VDOT University at virtualcampus.vdot.virginia.gov.
  2. Complete the course titled VDOT Lane Closure Coordination Training.
  3. When you finish, email TrafficOpsSystemsAdmin@vdot.virginia.gov to notify VDOT.
  4. Once VDOT validates your completion, you will receive instructions for accessing the LaneAware Training site.

Practice before go-live

The LaneAware Training site lets users log in and practice with the system before the live site opens. Everything entered there is for practice only and will not be used for official work entry submissions, so it's a safe place to get comfortable before November 30.
