With implementation on the new MSHA Respirable Crystalline Silica – 30 CFR Part 60 – Silica Rule on the horizon, the VTCA Aggregate Producer Safety & Health Committee have recommended that VTCA facilitate an MSHA Noise & Dust Workshop focusing on industrial hygiene, exposure monitoring, and regulatory compliance for silica dust and occupational noise in mining operations.
This workshop is designed to train mine operators, supervisors, and safety personnel to:
- Conduct noise and respirable silica dust sampling
- Understand MSHA compliance requirements
- Apply industrial hygiene principles
- Implement effective exposure controls
It specifically prepares attendees to perform ongoing sampling at their own operation.
The workshop was conducted at Vulcan Materials’ Augusta Quarry in Staunton VA, May 18 – 21 and was attended by 8 VTCA Aggregate Producer member’s safety professionals.
The course was taught by Justin Maurad and Vince Nicolau, both of MSHA’s Educational Field and Small Mine Services. MSHA’s EFSSMS offers a wide variety of training services at no cost to mine operators.
