Governor Spanberger Appoints New Director of the Virginia Department of Energy

Governor Abigail Spanberger has appointed Vince Maiden to serve as Director of the Virginia Department of Energy (Virginia Energy).

Maiden brings extensive experience in energy policy and programs, with a focus on the intersection of energy, environmental stewardship, and economic development. In his new role, he will lead Virginia Energy as the Commonwealth works to implement key energy and economic initiatives and finalize the 2026 Virginia Energy Plan.

Governor Spanberger said Maiden’s experience aligning energy programs, resources, and people will be important as Virginia works to improve energy affordability and reliability while creating economic opportunities across the Commonwealth.

Secretary of Commerce and Trade Carrie Chenery also highlighted Maiden’s experience balancing energy, environmental, and economic development priorities, noting that his leadership will help advance initiatives that strengthen Virginia’s economic competitiveness.

Of particular importance to VTCA’s aggregate producer members, Virginia’s Mineral Mining Program operates within the Virginia Department of Energy. The program oversees the regulation and safety of mineral mining operations across the Commonwealth and works closely with Virginia’s aggregate industry.
