VDOT Launches LaneAware in Early 2026

Member and Industry News,

VDOT contractors should be aware that the Department is planning to transition from the Lane Closure Advisory Management System (LCAMS) to a new platform called LaneAware. The LaneAware system is undergoing final testing and is expected to launch by early March. User training through VDOT University will be required before users are granted access to the new system.

Key Transition Details:

  • LaneAware will replace both LCAMS and the Planned Events module of VaTraffic.
  • LaneAware is intended to provide a more modern, streamlined system, including improved performance, updated GIS data, and a simpler access request process.
  • The transition is anticipated to occur after March 1, 2026. There will not be an overlap between the two systems. LCAMs will be shut down when LaneAware is launched.
  • Training will be required and available through VDOT University (anticipated to be available in January).
  • Existing LCAMS and VaTraffic users will have LaneAware accounts created in advance, however, accounts will not be activated until successful completion of the training requirements. Some LCAMS and VA Traffic users who do not have an ITD access form on record will need to complete one before access is granted.

As the transition approaches, VTCA and VAA will continue to work with VDOT’s Traffic Operations Division to confirm milestone dates, training availability, and the final implementation date and notify our industry members.
