VTCA Member Support for Upcoming Software Licensing Changes from VDOT
The Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance would like to inform members of an upcoming change announced by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) that will affect how Bentley software licenses are accessed for VDOT projects.
Historically, VDOT provided Bentley design software licenses at no cost to eligible consultants and sub-contractors. VDOT has confirmed that this model will be phased out, and beginning December 1, 2026, firms will be required to procure and manage their own Bentley software licenses.
What This Means for Your Firm?
VTCA members should begin planning for how this change may impact:
- Your current and future VDOT work?
- How many Bentley licenses your firm realistically needs to support your team?
- The most cost-effective Bentley licensing option for your firm’s size and workload?
- How can you ensure your firm is set up correctly, supported, and managing licensing costs efficiently during the transition?
Early planning will help avoid unexpected costs or project delays as the transition approaches.
Support Available to VTCA Members
VTCA would like to highlight CAD Journey, a VTCA member and Bentley Systems Channel Partner. Many members may already work with CAD Journey for Bentley software and support.
CAD Journey specialises in supporting small to mid-size firms working with DOTs and prime contractors, helping them navigate licensing changes, optimise costs, and transition smoothly with dedicated support.
VTCA members with questions about this change or planning for 2026 are encouraged to reach out to CAD Journey for guidance.
