VDOT Structure & Bridge Issues Major Revisions to the Manual of the Structure & Bridge Division

In early May, VDOT announced revisions to its Manual of the Structure and Bridge Division. Key changes will be found in the following areas of the manual:

Part 1 (Preface)

• Revised approval authority for design exceptions and design waivers – Part 1 (Preface – Manual Overview and Use)

Part 2 (Design Guidelines)

• Chapters 1 to 4 – Updated drafting procedures to align with the new S&B CADD Manual (see Part 10)
• Chapter 12 – Added design guidelines for prestressed concrete Bulb-T beams with CFRP strands

Part 4 (Prestressed Concrete Beam Standards)

• Added PCBT-CF standards for prestressed concrete Bulb-T beams with CFRP strands

Part 10 (Structure and Bridge CADD Manual)

• Added new S&B CADD manual

VDOT website links have been updated to reflect these changes.
